I have been a consumer of the Freedom Center since 2006. When I first came to the Freedom Center I did not even realize that I had a disability. Freedom Center staff assisted me with many different things. Through several meetings and intense discussions, my Independent Living Specialist helped me understand my symptoms and what I was feeling. She assisted me in finding a counselor to help me deal with my disability; and helped me apply for and receive Social Security Disability benefits. She also helped me obtain needed financial assistance, establish an email account, write a resume, and search for a job.

The staff at the Freedom Center helped me communicate better and also helped me control my anger issues and to talk things out. The Center‘s staff are knowledgeable and go far beyond what is normally expected to get things done. I can always count on them being there for me. The staff truly cares about me. They made me feel like I mattered and that my needs are important. I like to visit the Center even when I am not in need of assistance because my Independent Living Specialist is now my friend and will always be someone who I can talk to.

I am now happy, I am no longer lonely because I know that I have someone in my corner who cares about me. Someone who will take the time I need when I have an issue. I now see a counselor once a week and I also volunteer at a local Senior Center Monday through Friday. I have been clean and sober for over a year and counting.
